Hello and welcome to the Grades 1-3 Guidance Web Page!
After 20 years of being an elementary school teacher, I took the position of Elementary School Guidance Counselor in 2002. I have enjoyed my years as Guidance Counselor both at Central Elementary and now at West Side.
I get the opportunity to visit each classroom four times each September and about once per month for the rest of the year. I present Guidance lessons that include topics such as: Bullies, Teasing/Strategies to Deal with Teasing, Tattling vs Reporting, Making Mistakes, Respect, Responsibility, Solving Conflicts, Following Rules, Being Friends/Having Positive Friend Relationships, Doing the Right Thing and Appreciating Diversity.
During the spring of each year, I teach Third Grade students from the curriculum entitled, "You Are In Charge of Your Body". This is a very delicate but very important subject for children to learn about and includes lessons about personal safety and the concepts of "good touch" and "bad touch".
Anyone with questions, comments, or concerns about his/her elementary aged child, is welcome to call the school and make an appointment to visit with me. I highly recommend an appointment because days get really busy around here and I want to be able to give you the uninterrupted time that you deserve.
The vision of the Guidance and Counseling Department of Sidney Public Schools is to provide student services that enable each student to be objective and realistic as he or she seeks self-understanding and self-development and to share in the responsibility of helping young people become contributing citizens.
